I'm with FSETH on this one, many people do not take care/maintain their automobiles properly.

I would guess that they are original to the car. That is just a hunch based on the age of his car. I was also just letting the OP know that most times, rotors are repalced with the pads on BMW's, so he knows he wasn't just automaticlally getting ripped off by the dealer suggesting to do so.
I care about cost and personally don't feel that replacing rotors with pads is overkill. If you want to save every dime, why not just tell the OP to keep driving around with the check blake lining light on? That will save him from having to buy brakes for a few weeks.
Like I said, to each his own.
FinT, are the rear rotors original to the car? How many miles on your 04 4.8is?
