Trying to help here and expand on my previous answer of "yup".
The numbers issue certainly can be attributed to slang becoming a minor dialect. This came up once nationally with the debate over 'Ebonics'. What is language vs slang vs dialect. What is proper was the core discussion.
Somewhat similar to Chinese. Mandarin is the official language, while each region has grown to accept the local variations over thousands of years as their own language. A Cantonese person and somebody form Sichuan have great difficulty speaking without the common denominator of Mandarin.
As far as the possessive on Jesus, the possessive pronunciation does not sound weird itself, just seldom used. Typically, the Apostles are referred to as "Christ's Apostles', no? Or simply as the Apostles with a silent but understood subject of Christ (or Jesus for that matter). ??
