By the book it takes 7 hours just to remove and put the tranny back...imagine if you replace one thing and another is gonna fail in few months?

Agreed. If you are going to keep it for a while, spend the extra money and completely rebuild it. It's sort of like changing a timing belt and not changing the water pump at the same time. The labor time is where you save.
