obviously it was absent any proper story in the true sense of the word, but insofar as being a positively entertaining movie, it was superb. in fact, the special effects visuals were absolutely brain numbingly intense and totally convincing. i've definitely got certain images permanently burned in my brain for years to come. and the sense of looming disaster and "this is it, this is the end" feeling was conveyed quite well, without ever really falling over into the dreaded "cheesy romantic." any sense of emotion or hint of romance was, for the most part, sufficiently restrained, i thought.
my only real gripes: a few "common sense" stupidities that simply defied reason (why take-off in an airplane only to fly THROUGH falling buildings instead of, well, up and over them?!)
anyway, if you're sufficiently bored one night, it's worth watching on the big screen if only for the sheer spectacle. you might not "like" it, per se, but you can't deny its entertainment value.
enjoy.
