I hope most BMW diesel owners use those rubberized floor mats, or walk carefully around the diesel pumps.
The positive side of all this is that you aren't in the filling station every other day. My '05 3.0d gets 1000km+ between fills. The other thing that's happening here is that the cleanliness of diesel pumps and their surrounds is improving as more and more passenger vehicles go diesel. Ten years ago here just 2 or 3 percent of new cars sold were diesel, now it's just over 10%. Interesting, 30% of all new BMWs sold here are now diesel while 80% of X5s are diesels. For BMW, that's coming off a zero-diesels base from six or seven years ago.
