That calculator looks like 28 mm worth of diff...
Other than looks/cosmetics, I don't see the need to add spacers,
esp. for rolling around in the winter, but you may feel the look is important.

thanks mD, yep it looks like the outside edge of the wheel moves in 28mm with this setup. the more research I do, the less i like the idea of using a spacer. since the inner clearance only shrunk by less than 2mm (and i checked the clearance to the strut with my hand, plenty of room still), it seems a spacer is purely cosmetic and not truely needed. my 2005 is nearing 90K miles, I say the extra wear on the wheel bearings is not worth getting those 28mm back.
