best thing is to search vw forums or bmw forums for 5 sieries diesels .
my thoughts are turbo oil seals or perhaps the crank vent system as it could be oil burning .
or it could just be cold weather causing the issue .condensation in the oil or in the fuel .
diesels are strange beasts .
