My 2 cents--Are you going to drive the car on a highway? If so, you might not have the car a week before you get a scratch in the windshield. I would take the $2K and run, forget about replacing the windshield.
I had my X5 for about 6 months and I had a gravel truck drop a few stones that scratched my windshield. The only time I notice it is when the vehicle is perfectly clean, but my eyes are drawn to it.
I had my new 330i that I never drove in rain--it was perfect, and someone lost something out of the back of their truck bed--I couldn't avoid it in heavy traffic. Scratched the bottom of the front spoiler. Again, I was the only one who saw it but it bugged me every time I looked at the car.
If your luck is like mine you might as well accept the inevitable and enjoy the car.... The car won't gain value by sitting there, no matter how well you take care of it.
I feel for you though--I'm a perfectionist and it would bug me too......
