I'm new here on this forum, NOT new to BMW and Mercs, and I find myself agreeing with ye olde MotorDavid on this issue. Buying a several year old quality vehicle at 1/4 it's selling price and doing the necessary repairs to allow it to go another 100,000 miles, to me, makes a lot of sense. What also makes a difference is..... are you mechanically inclined, do you own tools, do you enjoy tinkering/fixing/detailing your cars as much as driving them? Is your garage well stocked with a lot of speciality equipment like air compressor, lift, computer software and a lot of other crap that you'd own anyway... no matter what kind of vehicle you drove?
My point is... why buy, and then maintain a disposible cheap vehicle when, at 100k miles it's worn out when that same money, or less, will rejuvenate a quality vehicle for another 100,000 miles?---- Dan
