Penguin is on a distinguished road
Yeah, it makes for a very good deal:

$1,800 tax credit
$4,500 Eco Credit
$1,000 CCA Rebate

Plus, for 2009, sales tax on the vehicle is deductible, even if you do not itemize.

Maybe some of the dealers have figured this out, and are less willing to deal on diesels as a result.

I probably could have negotiated a bit lower on mine (maybe another $500-1000 if I wrestled to the mat and didn't care which dealer I bought from), but I got $3,000 off of MSRP (including MACO and training fees), so I ended-up with a net cost of $10,300 off of a $61,000 MSRP, plus the sales tax deduction.

Seemed like a good time to replace the 1992 Explorer with 198,000 miles!

I thought about waiting for the face-lift which comes in a few months, but the new idrive was what I was really waiting for, and I'll be surprised if there is any eco credit or similar deduction for the 2011 model whi likely goes on sale in March/April.
