I normally keep the map up in the assistant window but when it does not start, the assistant window defaults to the trip computer. When I switch to the Navigation screen on the iDrive, it says "please insert DVD"

If I eject the DVD and reinsert all works again.

One time of this I figured a random event. Now its nearly every time I start the car. Thinking the drive may be going bad? I doubt the DVD itselft would go bad as I have never ejected it other than recently to reset the system.

Car goes in Monday for other stuff, so add this to the list. Anyone else with similar symptoms and fix?
