well much like reverse threaded sounds. You will turn right to loosen it. Opposite of the 'righty tighty' rule.
The nut is attached to the fan itself. The fan will spin when you loosen. Put the 32mm (or 36mm - I cant remember) on the nut and pull towards the drivers side to loosen the bolt. Again, you'll need something to push against the nuts on the pulley to stop it from spinning with the fan/nut. Obviously, the BMW tool works the best, but it can be done without it. Maybe with a long flat-head.
