Just go to Verizon Wireless and upgrade the V710 firmware to 1.40OR. However, all the newer V710 come with 1.40OR.

If you have a 2004 X5, you probably can retrofit the -933 BT/Assist module which works perfectly with the V710 with 1.40OR firmware.

If you have a 2005 X5 with Assist, then you probably already have the -993 BT/Assist module. You just need a V710 with 1.40OR.

I've retrofitted my '04 M3 with the -993 and the V710 works perfectly.
For reference, the reason the V710 works well with the modules Doc has identified above is that those modules are all manufactured by Motorola (who also make the V710). The BMW Bluetooth modules for installation into X5's produced prior to mid-2004 were made by Visteon.

Don't get me wrong, the Visteon modules are great. They just have an compatibility issue with the V710.
