The only thing I can think of is to be easy on the gas pedal and drive 50 mph. Neither of which I do......

The question you pose has many factors which will affect mpg's. Where you drive, altitude, the type of terrain, if your car is tuned properly, tire pressure, the amount of traffic, personal driving habits and ENGINE SIZE will greatly affect the mpg's. Believe it or not, the time of the year can also affect mileage. By this I mean temperature and gas mixture. Gas formulations change for the winter and usually is better for winter weather performance but mpg's suffer. I can get 400+ miles on the freeway but in the city, it will drop dramatically.
