There is a pump that tests the fuel pressure sensor... fairly common as these age. The are also called leak diagnostic pumps... here is a reference (different model, but you get the idea)

Not sure why there would be a discrepancy with the key and the car...I thought they synced up when you start the car. Did you give them an old key that had not been used? Or maybe used one key at the last visit and a different one now?
