Alan Z is on a distinguished road
Scenario: Dashboard display has gone blank but is energised from off position, all function buttons on either side of display all appear to work: phone, tape, CD radio and possibly even the MK4 Nav but as there's no display I can't say for certain? (Possibly if I could remember what sequence of buttons to press I may be able to get directions from the SatNav, but that's just speculation?)
The DVD/Nav player power lamp is lit and remains that way when the ignition is on, nothing unusual had occurred prior to the display going blank although the car battery wasn't fully charged, this point may just be coincidental!
1. Action taken was to remove the battery overnight to allow the car to fully power down and at the same time recharge the battery.
2. The following morning the fully charged battery was refitted and the car was started, no improvement.
3. Removed the two green relays and two fuses which power the DVD/Nav, connections checked and refitted, no improvement. All components are clearly identified via the rear fuse panels legend.
4. The DVD/Nav was then totally removed, its aerial, plus the blue and purple wiring harness plugs were disconnected from its rear panel. These were cleaned using electrical
cleaner and then refitted.
5. Within the battery compartment the TV modules' blue and grey wiring harness plugs were removed, cleaned and refitted. The system was then powered up and the display was fully restored.

From the above actions taken and the results achieved I can only assume I have managed to remake a defective connection on items 4 and 5.

Finally I rewarded my successful endeavours by updating the OS from V30 to V32, all functions as normal as I'm yet to discover what benefits can be achieved via this upgrade, other than an alternative night display?
