Central Virginia pretty much shut down today; the county went into an emergency last night and everything (courts, businesses, schools) including UVa was closed. The state capitol is also closed in Richmond.

The snow started around daybreak today and when I woke up at 9:30 the street was covered. It took me awhile to brush the car and rid the nasty wet snow. Probably 1-2cm at the time, with minimal visibility.

I drove home around noon-time today and the roads in Albemarle and Louisa Co. were slushy if not covered, including the interstate, and things have gotten much worse since then. The one nice thing about living in nowhere is that the grocery stores aren't frenzied and there's usually sufficient stock of essentials. None of the panic and full shopping carts like in the DC area.

The fun part arrives Sunday when I have to go back. Charlottesville and the Blue Ridge are supposed to get hammered.
