A quick introduction first. I am a 2005 4.8is owner living in the UK. I bought my car as an approved used car from a BMW dealer in London. I have had various problems with the car that have been fixed under the warranty but this one is the most worrying. I’ve lost a lot of confidence in the car……Not knowing if it was going to start or not.

You are not alone with your starting problems. I too have recently experienced the same problems of intermittent starting but with what appears plenty of cranking power. Mind you mine never started. It also only occured when the weather is cold as well. I have had my car 9 months now and nothing like this happened in the warmer months.

In the end the car was transported to a dealer where their diagnostics determined that a new battery was required. Although enough charge to turn starter motor over, not enough to power all other auxiliary circuits…..(I know that’s what you don’t want to hear)

I have only just got the car back so it’s difficult to know if it has solved the problem. I am still not 100% sure.
