It was a nice feature to have and so people were understandably interested in some other solution, myself included. Finally, you are somewhat wrong with your assessment below. BMW sells an umbrella that comes with an umbrella holder that mounts in the car. They also have a flashlight with it's specific holder as well (and in the case of the E53, with charging functionality). While there is no provision for a belt cutter I think we could argue that it is probably less useful than an umbrella or flashlight.
