Without a doubt. Ford is making a big move in that direction with their "Eco Boost."

I suspect Diesel would also be in the mix except for the false starts in the U.S. in the past -- I think a lot of companies are very leery of spending the money on diesel powertrains in the U.S. Perhaps once the SCR technology get's more real-life use and perhaps developed more, i.e., I doubt that Ford marketing people would find the two-tank BMW system acceptable for sale based on it's susceptibility to freezing in Northern Winters and requiring more frequent replenishment.
