I had a similar issue. If you can't get it to open, you can remove the door panel on the inside and push the locking mechanism manually to get it open. While you're in there, lube it up real good so it doesn't stick again. In my case, the cable had actually stretched, so I modified it to take the slack out of the cable. You might want to check the child safety lock as well.
