How long you plug it in really depends on the condition of your battery (i.e. it's age, how often it gets properly charged from the alternator, etc.) During the winter I'd at least plug it in once to top up the battery fully, especially if the battery were 4+ years old. A 12 hour charge or more from either unit should be good enough to do the trick and help keep you from getting stranded. According to CTEK, the bulk step of the Multi US 3300 will take typically betwen 23-26 hours to achieve 80% state of charge, however that is with a pretty depleted battery. You can also connect a CTEK comfort indicator (they have several options for this, see below) which will tell you when the battery needs to be charged.
