As a recent owner, I have experienced the same issue. I have started to just shut the engine down while in drive while I still have my foot on the brake. It seems to put the car automatically into park and I waste one less movement as I get out of the car. Overall I think the "Start" button is a stupid idea compared to a simple key start unless you have comfort access.
