Our E90 can be programmed by the owner to auto-lock and do it by specific ignition key. Which I like that control - there is a lot of benefit to that self personalization.

However after a while of having to unlock the doors when exiting the car or pulling the door handle twice - oy it's maddening and seems stupid you can't have it auto-unlock.
