This thread seems to be heading in two directions. The primary, I suspect, is the stereo cutting out. I have nothing to contribute there, but others are offering good input. I can offer a little about the phone system.

In addition, there are few, if any, phones on this list where every feature is supported!
BMW should be able to do much better than this.

There are so many phones with so much technology and so many different operating systems and so many different firmware versions that finding the ideal combination, and keeping it updated, would not likely be possible. This applies to most electronic technology and the technology is changing faster than car model years (remember X5 2010 model year lasted about 5 months!). Compare, for example, the "iDrive" systems in BMW vs Infiniti. BMW's is more comprehensive but Infiniti's has a superior Nav system. BMW's phone system is far superior to Infiniti's. Then, look at how many new phones are released each year, with new features and new firmware updates to fix glitches and add even more features. There is no way the car manufacturers can keep up with it all.
As for Verizon phones, in case it wasn't clear from my last post (#4 above), that link takes you to a list of Verizon phones. If you click on a phone, it will show you a list of supported vehicles. For example, if you click on Blackberry Storm 9530 you will see a table and in that table: HW: 9530 and SW 9530 4.7.0 Bundle 92 BMW 1,3,5,X3,X5,X6,Z,M
Hope something in this helps (at least the phone side of this thread).
