Dredging up a thread, but my wife had her 2007 X3 taken in for service today and now they are keeping it overnight.

Two minor grips, trim panel flaking etc, all fixed under warranty.

Ticking sound from engine, much like I'm used to hearing from a lifter sticking. I had some concern as I've heard rumors that this could be related to problems with the VANOS, but the SA just called me and said they would be keeping it overnight and replacing the lifters.

He said it was not a concern for failure, but that BMW had redesigned the lifters for a new style which dow not require as much pressure to actuate as the previous style.

I hope this is the case as I don't really have a good feel for this dealer and their service department yet as we just moved here.

My wife is enojying the 2010 E92 328xi she's in for a couple of days though...
