I've seen the wiki article. The Duck Tape guys have only been around for 20 years. The wiki article is about duct tape, and duck tape redirects there.
They don't seem to have clued in to the fact that cotton duck is not a tape at all, but a fabric that is also called canvas.
Anyway, I agree with you that many are confused
