I would hope they accounted for it.

The thing is, unless there is some sort of clear film to protect it or adhesive to keep it in place, the vibrations from road travel combined with the weight of the rack will quickly hurt the finish. It may be okay on clean paint, but as soon as dirt/grime gets in and around it you are asking for trouble on anything but a solid mount.

I've used this style of rack before and had lots of paint damage (albeit not on an X5 nor this particular style of rack) but I wanted to at least make people think twice or do some research before potentially damaging their vehicle.
