This happened to me in my e36 a few years back. Mine was more pronounced than yours as the shaking came out of nowhere all of a sudden while I was driving along one day. Also, my wheel was hot to the touch, which was a clear indication. I guess there are different degrees to which a caliper can start sticking. Glad you got it cleared up.
