Me too! I was thinking of doing something similar to ours, but haven't found the right light yet. You may have just solved that problem!

I think that to paint the tips, you should either sandblast or sand the chrome to help the primer/paint stick to it and also make Absolutely sure there isn't any grease or oils on it. That will cause fish eyes and need to be stripped and redone.
