I'd careful about this diagnosis. Suspension inactive warning happens for a half dozen different reason, including just a voltage drop in the electrical.

The terrible ride is because of the warning, the vehicle locks the suspension to stiffest mode when the warning comes on.

Is the ride height dropping equally all around or just one corner?
