Complaining about an SUV's MPG, let alone w/ a 4.8l is like buying a Prius and complaining that it's not fast. It's one or the other  Just for the heck of it, unless you've already got a CEL, you should consider having your codes checked to see if you've got any pending codes that haven't caused the CEL to come on yet.
