i'm having the same problem and this thread has answered most of questions. BUT...

looks like the plastic clip has two different thicknesses. i cannot seem to get it to go back in on the second slot.

hate the replace the entire thing with zero rust just because the cable has stretched a little.

also; i popped the cap off of the ball at the end of the cable. looks like there should be a way to shorten or adjust cable length at this point as well but it escapes me.

anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
