New customers are infinitely more valuable than old ones. It appears to be easy to get the old customers to buy a new phone, what they need to grow is conversions.

Well they certainly aren't
losing customers - and some of those old phones are going to new customers as well so the growth is happening.
Conversions, new customers and old ones, the iPhone is kicking ass in the marketplace whether people want it to or not.
