Remember that the X5 is pre-wired for other options. It might very well be going to the plug that is back there for a TCU installation or CD changer etc. I've seen it happen before where a water leak getting that back corner wet corroded the plug a bit and caused the drain... But if nothing's wet or corroded that isn't the problem. Just remember many wires are back there powered from the same source and not all plugs have components installed.
