or would valvoline syn VI suffice? then again if its a GM trans, Cant I just purchase a dex6 from a chevy dealership which they sell for 6.50 a quart?

Transfer case is different fluid. Dex III I think. I used D4ATF.
BMW and GM both only recommend Dex VI now. When I changed the fluid in my A5S390R, I had not seen anyone using Dex VI, so I went with a top notch Dex III compatible product: D4ATF.
