I just re-read this again and although this sounds obvious, I would like clarification....
are you considering running different
diameter front and rear wheels? You would still have to compensate for the tire sidewall to maintain an overall equal wheel/tire diameter between the front and rear. Not only would this be aesthetically unpleasing, you risk damaging the center differential. Example:
315/35/20 (assuming 10.5 width) diameter is 728mm
275/45/19 (assuming 9.5 width) diameter is 731mm
While this is the "closest" I think you could get running 19F and 20R (not that you'd want to) the overall diameter difference is 0.4% which equals 2.9 additional rotations of the rear wheels/tires every mile. This
might not damage the center differential (don't know much about it), but it is a risk. All that aside, the greater differences between sidewall sizes could cause "interesting" handling characteristics.
If I totally misunderstood your post as staggering diameter and not width, please disregard.
