[QUOTE=teamgs;754564]Greets,
After removing the aux fan in prep for replacement, I saw that my expansion tank was cracked and leaking. So, I ordered a new one, and started to remove the damaged one.

However, I can't seem to get it loose. I followed the DIY here, but can seem to get it out. I have disconnected the two top hoses, the bottom one at the engine connction, the electrical connection, and one of the bracket screws. (On the driver's light side of the tank.) I can't find the second screw, though there is a screw missing from the passenger side of the tank, at the top of the radiator, that looks like it might have held the second mounting screw at one time.

When I attempt to pull up on the tank, it acts as if it is still attached at the bottom, near the oil cooler.

What am I missing?

Gary, what year is your X5? I've got an 03 4.4 and an 03 4.6is. Ironically I just replaced the expansion tank on both today. The 4.4 has just started to leak and th 4.6 started leaking a few months ago. On the 03, there are two #10 head bolts at the top/front that come out very easy. At the bottom there is about a 1/4 inch pin that slides into a rubber grommet. Removal and replacement were actually very easy but when I was putting the tank sensor (gray elbow) back in the new one I broke one of the ears off. I had to super glue it back before I could reinstall. I would replace the top tube that wraps around the tank because it get very brittle with age. It actually started to leak on the 4.6 before the tank did. You might also consider replacing the cap. Just my .05 worth. Good luck.
