Postcodes are the UK version of the US zip codes.

On letters the postcode coupled with the house number will find its destination through our (UK) postal system, you don't need an address just the postcode and house number (or name).

With a map disc, the OEM Disc has a partial 5 digit postcode, where as (in most cases) all UK postcode are 7 digit.

So with the OEM 5 digit disc, you need the postcode and the street name/house number, with a modded 7 digit, you just need the code and the number.
