There have been multiple references to the current V8 as a 5.0. Just so you know the newest engine trim designation is 50i, not 5.0i and 50i doesn't stand for 5.0 liters of displacement, hence it is not a 5.0, it is a 4.4L V8. The engine would more accurately be referred to as the 50i or 4.4TT if you want to use abbreviations. I think BMW using this designation only adds confusion but I'm sure they figure that if the number (numerical designation) decreased from the outgoing model, then folks would think that there was a downgrade in the powerplant which is definitely not the case.
