I couldn't find any info googling on this - all I see is that the M3 switched in 2010 - is it for sure that the x5 did as well?
This "issue" seems to show up on threads from time to time. I have a 2010 35d and purchased the "old" kind of TPM sensors from PYSPEED for around $200 with shipping (vs $350+ for the "new" kind). I cannot comment on what works for 2011 models but these sensors work fine on my winter wheels - just go into the appropriate iDrive module and reset your TPMS once installed.
