The OEM spec the fluid needs to meet is the Shell specification listed above. BMW don't use their own spec for this fluid. Trouble is, we don't know how close or not the Redline fluids are to meeting (or exceeding) that Shell specification. Redline doesn't typically complete the certifications, as an example reference their lack of Dexron certification. They use phrases such as "suitable for applications that call for spec xxx" instead of the phrase "meets spec xxx". Using the Dexron example, GM didn't list the Redline fluids as meeting Dexron specs last time I looked.

BMW specify two different fluids for the 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder applications. Redline say that their fluid bridges across both specs, and is suitable for both transmissions. You can think of it as either a very versatile fluid, or a compromise, take your pick.

Lots of people like Redline products, but just be aware that it is not an approved fluid.
