I can speak from experience since I currently own two first year model cars (04 545, 07 x5 4.8) I have had numerous issues with both but BMW has made them right. You are going to get 1 year of warranty which covers every little thing and 2 years with the CPO which will cover all mechanical issues. If you are going to put the miles on these cars I am sure you will take advantage. If you are only going to be putting on 10k a year you may find yourself paying for things outside of the warranty because you will not have "wore the car out enough" My 545 just slipped out of warranty coverage and I only have 60k miles on it and I have to bring it in for 3 errors showing up (active steering which was already completely replaced, Emissions, and leaking washer which was already replaced) I am hoping that I can get a courtesy repair done since I am only 1 month out of warranty. I have done 7k oil changes and 50k trans and dif fluid changes so I hope they understand I take care of my cars. Plus I am looking at getting a MY11 x5 TT priced at 80k and I hope I can use that for a bargining chip. FYI The black book(aka auction prices) for that car you are looking at which is almost identical to my current one is $34,500. I would haggle since they are looking at about 5k profit on top of the CPO. Last but not least, point out every issue at delivery so you can get it fixed before you take delivery.
