Check your iPhone's Bluetooth settings to make sure that it is set to transfer contacts. For the purpose of testing, I would set it to "All Contacts" until you get things right.
If it still will not transfer contacts, you might have bad data in one of the phone number fields. Search your contacts for any phone number with non-numeric characters (dashe, space, period, and parenthesis characters are OK).
The volume increase is not going to happen. That has been a running complaint for some. It is prefectly fine in my car. Others have had issues. Many folks have installed an external ELK amp in-line with the BT module with excellent results.
I did not say it was the easiest to use, just feature rich. Many newer cars have more intuitive interfaces. However, few have more features. Also, it has the best microphone audio quality of any other BT system that I have tested. It smokes Acura, Lexus, Audi, Toyota, MB, and a few others.
Are any of your voice recognition features working? If not, that does need to be turned on by a dealer. Or, even better, you can use NavCoder.
