Not at all... The BSW sub upgrade can be installed regardless of having the stock sub. At first, I thought it seemed a bit pricey, but when you factor the included Punch 200.1 amp, Punch EQ knob, high end cabling, and custom enclosure... it's the best setup you can buy given your goal of being cost effective.
