i have a late 2005 3.0d as well and just once i noticed the same thing, i also noticed that different brands of diesel seemed to smoke more that others, i,m presently using BP and i think i get the best results from it, i have 77,000 on mine and i dont follow the dealer recommended servicing, i get mine done EVERY 10,000ks
