I followed this method and removed the two strut bolts to swing down the carrier to pull out the shaft.

The hardest part for me was pounding the axle out of the carrier. I had to use a 10lb sledgehammer and a 3/4" diameter brass drift.

I did use a impact wrench to remove the 36mm nut.

One note. As you are putting the cv joint back onto the shaft you need to use a screwdriver to push the c clip down so the cv joint can slip back onto the axle.

It took me a total of about 2.5 hours from start to finish.
