Yes, codes are a sure sign. Surely you want to erase these if you bring it into BMW for a warranty claim, What Terry leaves out is that the DDE (DME in gas cars) has memory that stores prior operating values. Yes you can delete error codes, no you cannot delete op values. If BMW looks and finds boost parameters outside the limits set by the factory tune, you may find yourself on the short end of a very big stick.
You should look up and read BMWs internal document on this issue...it has been posted. Very enlightening.
I've modded DME on two of my cars- but I waited for a while and then went with a 'real tune' that allows total control of all the maps and ensure the root protection functions (knock sensing, ingnition retard, etc) are all intact and linked tightly to the control parameters. And I assume that if I blow up the motor on the 996TT I am spending $25k for another.
