Often police is more concerned about folks not giving enough distance to the car in front of them (there have been several incidents with folks who've caused major accidents with loss of lifes pushing slower cars almost off the Autobahn). However speed limits are enforced and depending on the country you'll incure a hefty fine (anything 25km/h above the posted speed limit in Germany will most likely cost you your driving license for at least a month).
The good news is that driving in the left hand lane is prohibited and illegal except for passing
