Also, I'd recommend NOT buying a unit from Ebay or a reseller that may not stand behind the product. These units are not from a standard source and can have issues that you will need a reseller to help you with. On the E46fanatics site, Dynavin Solutions has been the vendor of choice because of the familiarity that Jeffb has with them (he is supposed to be testing an E39 unit as well) and the excellent help he has provided everyone on that forum. It sounds like Bimmian would be a good source as well (judging from the posts above).
